ALONG THE SACRED GANGES RIVER

This is an ongoing project I began in 2016, rooted in a deep connection to Eastern philosophy and a curiosity about how spiritual life is lived in public. Over multiple journeys since then, I keep returning to the sacred rivers, especially the Ganges, and the stone steps of the ghats where everyday life and ritual share the same ground. I photograph where stillness and intensity sit side by side: morning fog, a quiet figure at the waterline, crowds gathered for evening prayers, pilgrims bathing, priests blessing, heads shaved in mourning, and the smoke of cremation fires rising over the river. I’m curious about people, and the camera gives me access, but it also asks for humility. Some moments I feel invisible, other times I’m clearly seen. This work is my attempt to hold that tension with respect, and to make photographs that honor the humanity inside belief, grief, and devotion.
